The following game was played in the second round of the Warwickshire Cup, 2012. It's certainly not a game for the purist, as both players committed numerous errors, but it contains some instructive positions. (Annotations by Ken Lovell, using computer analysis by Martin Fierz's CheckerBoard program.)

  1. Weak. 6-10 is even.
  2. 29-25 is best.
  3. Black has drifted into a losing position, with White having control of the centre. See Diagram 1.
  4. Allows a draw . 22-18 instead wins for White.
  5. Loses. 6-10 draws.
  6. Allows Black to draw. If 18-15, White wins.
  7. Forms Diagram 2.
  8. Loses. 9-14 will draw.
  9. Again lets Black off. 16-20 is the winning move here.
  10. Another losing move. Black draws by 15-19, 14-21, 19-12, 21-25, 13-17*, 25-29.
  11. White misses the winning play by 14-17*, 18-27, 17-22, after which White holds the two black men on the side of the board with one king and crowns his remaining man without problems.
