20 April. Robert Langley of Bearwood died.

"It is with great regret that I report the recent death of Robert Langley at the age of 52. Bob always had a youthful appearance belying his age, and was generally regarded as the fittest of the West Midland players, but unfortunately contracted a rapid cancer which proved incurable. Bob was a very keen, capable and popular player who was still active in the game until recent months, winning the Warwickshire Cup only last year. He was a regular member of the local county team and in 1980 reached the final of the English Amateur championship, losing to John Gillbard. Bob's death has come as a blow to all our club members, and to myself especially, as he and l were close friends who met frequently across the board."
